On a personal level, I am a daughter, sister, friend, student, and cat mom. I was born and raised in Reno, NV. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in business management with minors in Human Resources and Entrepreneurship, I entered the corporate world.
I would like to share my story of my past few months and how I got to where I am today. A year ago, I was in a totally different place in my life. I was working as a stockroom lead for a corporate company. After work, I would go to the gym, make dinner, and watch a show or movie. I felt extremely unfulfilled. I tried adding more time with friends, picking up new hobbies, journaling; none of it helped this emptiness I felt though. So, I reflected back on when I felt I was doing good in life and what could I add to work towards something. Going to college did make me happy in my undergrad years so that is why I decided to do the master’s Program. I also began thinking about my stance in my workplace – “Do I want to grow in this department? No. Are they giving me opportunities to switch? No. Do I have an emotional connection or reason to stay? No.” I wanted to grow but they wanted to give me a raise to stay and then promote me to supervisor, but it was not what I wanted.
I did take the raise of course, but I started looking outward into other opportunities. I reconnected with some old friends and noticed that they had gotten married, moved out together, and had a baby on the way. They were doing something right. I asked them what they had been doing and they explained their financial consulting business. I saw it as a perfect opportunity. They told me how I would work as my own business, remote, lucrative, and offer mentorship. I said yes. Before I knew it, I was working full-time, going to school part-time, and working part-time. The exhaustion got to me. Out of nowhere I couldn’t walk without feeling shooting pain down my entire left leg. I suffered from a pinched sciatic nerve for three weeks. I could not continue running my health into the ground, so I asked myself, “What is the least fulfilling to me?” It was my full-time job, so once my health returned to normal, I turned in my two weeks. Since then, I have focused my energy on financial consulting and growing my business. I also created a clothing brand called Phyre Collective that I am growing as more of my creative outlet. I am still in Graduate school, and I have chosen to do it full-time. Sometimes, we just need to remind ourselves that the goal is not to prove ourselves to anyone but simply make decisions for ourselves.
